I just can't let the month go without sharing some of May our goings on. Last week, Emily was in her school talent show for piano and also for a little singing skit she performed with her friend. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that she can really sing! Henry and Liza gave all the little kids a good laugh.
After the show, one of our sixth grade teachers asked me if she was playing the keyboard with an accompaniment and he was completely surprised when I told him no, that it was all her. She has been taking lessons for two years now and she works hard and practices almost every day. I am really proud of her. Emily's piano teacher Lisa came to see her perform, she is also one of our CCD teachers, we love her! I panned over to get her in the video at the one minute mark, she is the one holding up her pink sweater.

School's Out for Summer!
So maybe I was a little hard on May, or maybe the bittersweet sentiment I feel about the last day of the school year is wearing me down. My 6th grader will put her 7 years of elementary school behind her and in August begin her years at Jr. High. My baby will be stepping into her kindergarten classroom to begin her own 7 year journey while my other two little middle ones will head in to conquer 2nd and 4th grade. Yay! Sob.

I know what your thinking, but this was actually taken last week as they [minus the little half dressed one] left for school on crazy dress day.
Tomorrow is our last baseball game and party. Every day it seems we are celebrating the last day of something and it's exhausting, but it is all over after tomorrow! This week has been so exciting for the kids and they have been coming home tired and cranky and when they make a lot of noise and stop getting along [I know not really that unusual], I start to wonder how this could be what I have been wishing for all month [insert my nervous laughter here]. I'm just going to blame it on the rain and the fact that we have been inside way too much for this time of year. Then I will say a little prayer and hope for the best for the next 11 weeks! Wow, it's only 11 weeks? Hello Summer, bring it on girlfriend!

May May...
Go away.
Shhhh, did I really say that? Okay fine, I said it! Don't act like you don't feel the same way! May is hard. When I am trying to rush May to it's 11 month hibernation like I am today, I hear the Crowded House song "Don't Dream It's Over" in my head and I try to remind myself that every day is a gift and a blessing because I really do believe that in my heart. It's just so hard to hear it through all the commotion, or maybe I'm not listening hard enough.
To add to my May woes, once a week we have been reverting back to winter around here. It's the end of May and my kids should by now be automatically dressing themselves in shorts and short sleeves but still each morning I get the question: "is it a cold day or a hot day or mixed?" We went to a birthday party Saturday and it was originally a swim party but turned out to be a near record setting cold evening [but a great party none the less] and we took our frozen feet home and warmed them by a nice fire! Yep, I said a fire! In late May! In California!
I am ready to take a break from the scriptedness of the school year and enjoy some ad-hoc time with my kids. I'm weary of trying to catch the deluge in a paper cup and I want to get to know the feeling of liberation and release. Oh, and I hope the weather catches up to us too.
If I could talk to Spring, I would tell her this:
Spring,
I served with winter,
I knew Winter,
Winter was a friend of mine.
Spring, your no Winter.
So man up and start behaving like late Spring or just roll over and let it be Summer already!
Thank you :)
